With the changing of officers and struggles put upon us from management, it is now more important than ever to stand together as a united front. We are only as strong as the people around us. So often I hear voices saying I am getting out of the union for this reason or another. More often than not it is because a member did not get his/her own way. My question to those would be, what will getting out of the union solve? The officers are there to abide by the contract and to make sure management is also following the contract to the letter. The officers are there to make decisions and negotiate for the greater good of the membership, but the union is only as strong as its members. With tensions raising from declining volumes, more discipline, MIARAP, and management pushing carriers out the door, it is important for each member to be involved with the union in a positive manner. I encourage all members to be a positive addition to this new regime. Remember your elected officials are not the union, YOU ARE! Get involved, be part of the solution and not the problem.
